Service & Meter Upgrades

From rusted-out beachside meter cans to full 100A→200A service upgrades — mast, riser, weatherhead and meter main, coordinated with FPL and finished the same day.

Salt air eats electrical services for breakfast

Live anywhere near the water — Flagler Beach, the Hammock, Ormond-by-the-Sea — and your meter can is in a slow-motion fight with corrosion. We’ve replaced services so rusted the meter was barely hanging on. A corroded service isn’t cosmetic: it’s loose connections, heat, and eventually a failure at the one piece of equipment that feeds everything else in your house.

100 amps was fine in 1985

Modern life — central A/C, an EV in the garage, a hot tub, induction cooking — asks more of a house than a 100-amp service can comfortably give. A 200-amp upgrade replaces the meter can, main breaker, riser and weatherhead, brings grounding up to today’s code, and adds the emergency disconnect the current code calls for. We coordinate the FPL disconnect and reconnect so the whole thing happens in one planned day — and we’re honest about when you don’t need one, too.

Service changes are honestly some of our favorite work — that and generators. We keep main breakers and meter cans in stock and do a ton of these, so your job isn’t sitting for weeks waiting on a part to come in.

Storm damage? We work right through it

Hurricanes rip weatherheads off roofs and drop services, risers and meter cans into the yard. When the storm hits, we don’t disappear — as long as our phones are working and it’s safe to drive, we answer and we go. Mike will throw the chainsaw and ropes in the truck, cut the tree off your service line, and rebuild the riser, meter can and mast to get your power back on. We handle the insurance-claim repairs and the emergency disconnects too — and our work is still standing on buildings we rebuilt six years ago, salt air and all. There are photos below to prove it.

Why the license on the truck matters

Here’s something most homeowners don’t know: in Florida, a business can operate on a rented license — a licensed electrician "qualifies" a company he doesn’t work at, for a monthly fee, and the crews who show up may have no connection to him at all. It’s legal, and it’s common. At Blondin Electric the license holder is Mike Blondin — the owner, a master electrician with 35+ years in the trade, and the guy who actually shows up at your house. You can verify any Florida electrical contractor free at MyFloridaLicense.com — look us up: EC13003641. Ask any company you hire who holds their license and whether that person will be on your job. It’s a fair question, and the answer tells you everything.

Questions homeowners ask us

How do I know if I need a service upgrade?

Rust streaks on the meter can, a main breaker under 200 amps in a house with central A/C plus an EV or spa, lights that sag when big loads kick on, or an insurance letter after a 4-point inspection. If you’re not sure, send us a photo of your meter — we’ll tell you straight.

How long is my power off during a service upgrade?

One planned day, and usually less. We stage every part before we start and coordinate FPL’s disconnect and reconnect — on a recent three-building condo project the best building was back on in eight hours.

Do you handle the power company and the permit?

Yes, both. We pull the permit, schedule the county inspection, and coordinate FPL. You don’t call anyone but us.

What is a meter main combo?

A single unit that combines the meter socket and the main breaker (often with the code-required emergency disconnect) on the outside of the house. It’s the modern, insurance-friendly way most upgrades get done here.

Does a 200-amp upgrade increase home value?

It removes a deal-killer. Inspectors and insurers flag undersized and corroded services, and buyers’ agents know it. A documented, permitted 200A service takes the issue off the table.

Do you do storm damage or emergency electrical repairs?

Yes. We don’t advertise around-the-clock 24-hour service, but for a true emergency — a torn-off service, a tree down on your line, no power after a storm — we’ll come. During hurricanes, as long as our phones are working and it’s safe to drive, we answer the phone and respond. Mike brings a chainsaw and ropes, clears the tree, and rebuilds the riser, meter can and mast to restore your power.
